Human lifespan has seen a doubling over the past five decades. In the United States, there are about 45 million individuals over the age of 65, and by 2025 that number is expected to increase to 72 million. The systematic study of ‘Successful or Productive Aging’, defined as the capacity of adults (over age 50) to thrive, has recently seen increased attention.
The Penn Center for Mental Health & Aging is conducting the National Successful Aging study, to examine predictors of ‘Successful Aging,’ and is especially interested in factors such as resilience, managing life challenges, social support, emotional well-being, optimism, and coping spirituality.
Our speaker, Dr. Zvi Gellis, directs the Penn Center for Mental Health & Aging. The Center conducts rigorous applied research on geriatric mental health services in home health and behavioral health settings, and provides training in cognitive behavioral interventions.
