Have you talked with your children about your finances? What about with your parents, if they are still living? Are all the necessary legal documents in place should there be an emergency? If you haven’t had this conversation yet, you will want to have it soon.
A growing number of children will have to provide support for parents who are living longer but aren’t financially prepared. Waiting to talk with your children or your parents until there are problems can result in fewer options, and conversations will be more emotionally charged. It also might be impossible to gain access to accounts or make healthcare decisions without lengthy, expensive court proceedings.
In this interactive session, Cameron Huddleston, the author of Mom and Dad, We Need to Talk: How to Have Essential Conversations with Your Parents About Their Finances, will share insights on how to begin this crucial conversation with your children and parents, then open the floor to your questions. Cameron is an award-winning journalist with more than 18 years of experience writing about personal finance. Her work has appeared in Kiplinger’s Personal Finance, Business Insider, Chicago Tribune, Forbes, MSN, Yahoo and many more print and online publications. Learn more about Cameron Huddleston
