Cocktails and Conversations with Jamie Bernstein, Daughter of Leonard Bernstein and Author of Famous Father Girl

The oldest daughter of revered composer/conductor Leonard Bernstein offers a rare look at her father in her deeply intimate and evocative FAMOUS FATHER GIRL: A Memoir of Growing Up Bernstein. In FAMOUS FATHER GIRL, Jamie Bernstein invites us into her family’s glamorous world to meet the fantastic set of characters who were ever present—the Kennedy’s, Mike Nichols, John Lennon, Richard Avedon, Stephen Sondheim, Jerome Robbins, and Betty (Lauren) Bacall, among them.

To Jamie though, her father was, above all, the man in the scratchy brown bathrobe who smelled of cigarettes; the jokester and compulsive teacher who enthused about Beethoven and the Beatles. But this is also the story of a young girl who herself caught the creative bug and the desire to express herself musically. And the tension of doing so while living under the shadow of the country’s most renowned musician forms this memoir’s emotional core.

Following the discussion with Ms Bernstein, enjoy a wine reception and light dinner of elegant hors d’oeuvres in the renowned Writing Room (the former Elaine’s), where a cadre of writers and celebrities—including Leonard Bernstein, Mick Jagger, Norman Mailer, Luciano Pavarotti and Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis—were regulars.  Additionally cocktails can be purchased at the bar.

We expect this to sell out, so please register early.
