Designated a National Historic Monument in 1972, Mother Bethel is the oldest church property to be continuously owned by African Americans. Join fellow TTN members on a tour that will include the church and museum housing artifacts from the 18th century as well as the tomb of Bishop Allen.

Mother Bethel Church was dedicated in 1794 and one of the first African American churches founded in the United States.  Bishop Richard Allen united other congregations and formed AME in 1816 making it the oldest African Methodist Episcopal congregation in the nation.  Richard was born into slavery to the Chew Family and purchased his freedom with 2000 Continental dollars.  His
story is one of perseverance and ultimate triumph over inestimable odds.
We hope you can join us for another historically rich jewel in our own backyard.
Registration, payments and cancellations* must be made by July 12, 2019. *No refunds will be given after this date
