Philadelphia Inquirer’s Editorial Cartoonist Signe Wilkinson

Wednesday, April 11, 2018
4:30 - 6:30 PM
Location: Historical Society of Pennsylvania, 1300 Locust Street, Philadelphia
Registration Deadline: Wednesday, April 4, 2018
Contact: Jean Brubaker

You won’t want to miss the chance to hear Signe Wilkinson talk about what’s behind her work as a editorial cartoonist for The Philadelphia Inquirer.  Not only does she have to have the artistic skills, but she also needs to have an in depth understanding of the complex, late-breaking political, community and social news of the day – allowing her to zero in what images would capture the nuances of the issue at hand.

Wilkinson is the first female cartoonist to win the Pulitzer Prize for Editorial Cartooning (1992) and was once named "the Pennsylvania state vegetable substitute" by the former speaker of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives.

She served as president of the Association of American Editorial Cartoonists from 1994-1995. In 2005 she published a collection of her work entitled One Nation, Under Surveillance. In 2011, Wilkinson received a Visionary Woman Award from Moore College of Art & Design.
There will be a wine and cheese reception following the presentation, so you will have the opportunity to have some informal conversation with Ms. Wilkinson.
