Personal Stories on Reslience: Jan Zacharjasz
Why Resilience is So Important to Me
- Jan Zacharjasz
Throughout my life, I’ve had my share of unexpected changes starting with my parent’s divorce when I was 10, to the loss of my father when I was 30, to one of my children requiring multiple surgeries as a child. Fast forward to my husband requiring stents at age 49, to relocating and caring for my mother-in-law for seven years through Alzheimer’s, to my other child nearly being killed in a car accident just a few years ago.
When I look back at how I coped through these shocking moments, I found some common elements that served me incredibly well – my ability to persevere, my sense of humor, my optimism and the development of strong support systems. Read more...

Such is the tale of TTN member, Deb Spungen, who recently published “Table for One: Essays from a Widow’s Journey”, telling her personal experience of the pain and grief of widowhood while also describing how her journey back into the world slowly unfolded. Read more...

How TTN Member Sharon Kelly Hake Became a "Great Dame"
I first met Sharon Kelly Hake in October 2016 at the TTN Member Mingle in Center City, and soon after Sharon joined our Philadelphia Chapter. Sharon quickly took advantage of what TTN offers, joining a Peer Group, the Wine Lovers SIG and an informal group of women mostly from Queen’s Village who just like to hang out together.
Sharon impressed me and I wanted to learn more about how she launched her own company, Great Dames, and became the President and CEO. Great Dames is a remarkable company that is dedicated to connecting and mobilizing women to enhance their personal and professional leadership abilities while creating a legacy........."kindred spirits with purpose".

The discussion was facilitated by Carolyn Walter, a member of our PG Advisory Committee and a noted expert in the field of loss, transition and transformation. Carolyn stressed the importance of and need for grieving as a natural response to loss. The PG liasons embraced the topic and came back with new insights on how to handle the loss experience.
