NJWIT members at Sheep to Shawl
April 18, 2015Lanie Gastman, Carla Loffredo, Marilyn Shuffler and Dale Swisher met on Saturday morning, April 18th to participate in Philipsburg Manor’s annual Sheep to Shawl festival.
We explored the process of turning wool into cloth using 18th-century techniques including dyeing wool and weaving. Scottish border collies displayed their skills at sheep and duck herding. Costumed interpreters demonstrated wool dyeing, spinning and weaving.
One sheep ready to lose her winter coat was shorn by hand just like they were in the 18th century.
It was a fun morning followed by a delicious lunch at Horse Feathers in Tarrytown. What a great day to share with dear friends!
