Announcing the Birth of Retail Therapy: Women Spending with Intention

May 31, 2012

TTN’s version of a “cash mob” – a shopping event to support local women-owned businesses - was conceived by Patsy Deerhake, central Ohio program chair.  Patsy envisioned a fun activity to engage members, raise our visibility and benefit the community.  A core group of members quickly got involved to develop the program.

Retail Therapy was born on May 16th at “Celebrate Local” in Easton OH.  Nine vendors provided samples and TTN members and their guests spent the $20 (and more) they had committed to this activity – a win-win for retailers and participants.  A total of 16 women attended, 10 members and six guests.  Passers-by asked “who’s this lively group?,” raising our visibility with our target audience.

As Retail Therapy grows, it will continue to focus on businesses owned by women (preferably over 50) or those supporting our mission of personal growth and development.  Neighborhoods and event days as well as times will vary as we attempt to target slow periods that will truly benefit the businesses we support.
