TTN News

TTN's Multi-Media Month

January 31, 2012

Members were featured on radio shows on Long Island and Chicago; BusinessWeek profiled central Ohio founding chapter lead Pat Snyder and quoted me; Charlotte Frank and I presented a webinar on TTN and the Caring Collaborative for an audience of 50 Life Planning Network members; the Chase Alumni Association shared a profile of my transition and TTN with its 1,000 members; and Long Island's Newsday did a spectacular three-page article with three photos of the Long Island chapter in action.

Media coverage is one of our most productive sources of new members.  It's also a great way to showcase members as role models for women exploring what's next, and to promote our activities.  Best of all, each story builds our online presence and leads to more stories.  Journalists are always searching for that elusive "woman over 50 who [went back to school/got a new job/launched a business/got help with caregiving....]"

Here are the specifics about each piece.  I hope they'll provide inspiration and ideas about how to get publicity for your chapter and your involvement with TTN.

BusinessWeek - http://www.businessweek.com/finance/professional-women-and-a-secure-retirement-12302011.html.  This late December article focuses on an untold good news story of professional women who have built the financial foundation to have new options in their 50s and older, profiling central Ohio founding chair Pat Snyder (now enrolled in a Masters of Applied Positive Psychology program at UPenn) and referring to TTN.  This story came about because I met author Chris Farrell at a conference and followed up, offering to be a resource for his personal finance stories.

WCWP.org radio - On January 13, Long Island chapter chair Marlene Gerber and Caring Collaborative lead Carol Lioz talked about TTN and the Caring Collaborative on LI radio station WCWP.org.  We look forward to sharing an audio file of the program.  The Hempstead LI Department for the Aging was aware of the LI Caring Collaborative program and suggested that the radio station interview Marlene and Carol.

WGN.com radio - On January 14, Chicago chapter chairs Emma Kalaidjian and Del McCormick did a 7 minute interview about TTN and women over 50 on mega-station WGN.  Click on this link to hear the interview.  The opportunity came about when Emma Kalaidjian contacted the show's host in response to an on-air comment that "there's nothing for older women to do in Chicago."

Chase Alumni Association - interview attached above - the alumni association for my former employer JPMorgan Chase profiles members in a "Life After Chase" series.  The editor was very interested in The Transition Network and my for-profit-to-nonprofit story.  The alumni newsletter reaches about 1,000 people around the world.

Life Planning Network webinar - on January 20, Charlotte Frank and I provided an overview of the Caring Collaborative to 50+ members of the Life Planning Network, a group of professionals in the positive aging field (coaches, financial advisors, geriatric care managers).  The presentation is attached.  The opportunity arose when the Life Planning Network was scheduling programs for 2012; their members had heard of the Caring Collaborative through our media coverage and wanted to know more.  Over 50 people participated in the webinar.

Newsday - (scanned copy attached)  It doesn't get much better than this! - front page coverage headlined "Transitioning with the Help of Other Women," two full pages of information and stories in Newsday's Second Act section, plus three action shots of chapter members.   The chapter promoted a mix-and-mingle event in late February, which now has over 200 women signed up...and at least 10 women have joined TTN since the article was published.   LI chapter PR lead Nancy Reedy created this opportunity by reaching out to Newsday for almost a year, telling them about chapter activities and the Caring Collaborative.  They were particularly interested in the Caring Collaborative and its self-help community, but the article does a great job of showcasing all of Long Island's activities.  You can contact Nancy directly at nancyr1964@gmail.com.

Congratulations to everyone involved with our outreach! I look forward to sharing many more PR successes in the coming months.
