THE WOMEN OF TTN

Our members are the heart and soul of The Transition Network.  Our chapters are born, nurtured and grown through the vision and energy of these exceptional women. And they come to TTN with wonderful life stories of successful careers, diverse families, and plentiful life experiences to share.

Browse through our Member Profiles to learn more about what brought our members to this point in their lives, what they are hoping to accomplish next and how they view their impact on the world.

Freda Johnson

Board member Freda Johnson celebrated a milestone birthday at the NYC chapter’s summer dinner – here’s what she said:

"Turning 65 in March has been a wonderful experience.  Who’d have thunk it! Being older is so damn liberating!

On my birthday, I was in Vietnam in the middle of a 4 month cruise around the world celebrating my husband’s and my retirement.  The trip was a wonderful transition from my working life to my new life. It gave me a chance to reflect on the past and plan for the future, notwithstanding the unanticipated encounter with pirates in the Indian Ocean!

I’ve learned quite a few lessons from that trip and since:
  •     Keep yourself open to new possibilities,
  •     Take control of your future,
  •     Prioritize your time and focus,
  •     Give back to the community
And, most importantly, as Thoreau said, simplify, simplify, simplify.

I’d worked for 43 years in public finance without many vacations.  I’d never envisioned a time when I would not be working but the trip relieved me of many preconceptions and enabled me to open up to a new way of thinking.  I had joined TTN about 3 years ago, knowing retirement was not far off and TTN has surpassed all my expectations.  It has been a rock of stability and has enabled me to make new friends, good friends and to gain strong support.

Celebrate your milestones, embrace your now, reach out to someone who can benefit from your experience because you will gain the larger benefit by helping them, and dream of the future.

There is more joy in my life now than ever before.

I am blessed to have a wonderful husband, great friends, good health and the ability to explore the new. I encourage all of you to stretch yourselves beyond what you’ve done or been in the past, as only in experiencing the new can you really come to understand who you are and what you are capable of.
